Autogenous interpositional block graft vs onlay graft for horizontal ridge augmentation in the mandible

Twenty patients were randomly split in 2 groups interpositional and onlay groups, with autogenous blocks chosen from the mandibular symphysis because the donor website. Whilst from the onlay set, the mean preoperative bone thickness was 3.74 ± 0.83 mm whereas following 4 months the mean bone breadth had been 7.37 ± 1.98 mm.
Within the boundaries of the study, interpositional block graft appears to be a feasible treatment alternative for flat slab enhancement from the mandible.

Purpose

Interpositional block graft showed promising results in vertical ridge improvement at the mandible, while scarce evidence is available concerning the use of interpositional block graft for flat ridge augmentation from the mandible.
